Meet Our Dog Trainer

Stephanie brings over a decade of hands-on dog training experience to Lily’s Play-N-Stay. A native of Independence, Missouri, she holds a biology degree from Truman State University and began her career working with exotic animals through an internship at Turpentine Wildlife Refuge. That early exposure to animal behavior laid the foundation for her passion in companion animal training.

Since 2012, Stephanie has trained dogs in both corporate and private settings, including time at Petco, Bays at the Moon, and Beyond the Dog, where she worked under the mentorship of a PhD-certified applied animal behaviorist. Her experience blends real-world training with research-backed methods.

Stephanie is a balanced trainer who uses evidence-based techniques rooted in behavioral science. Her philosophy focuses on clarity, structure, and trust—guiding dogs and their owners toward sustainable success, not just quick fixes.

She’s been working with Lily’s Play-N-Stay since 2021 and continues to serve the community with a calm, confident presence.

Outside of training, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, working with dogs through her own business, and staying grounded through nature, animals, and lifelong learning.

What is your training style?

Our philosophy is positive-first, practical always. We use food, toys, affection, and play as core motivators. We introduce tools or techniques thoughtfully, only when it supports clearer communication and long-term success. We’ll always explain any recommended approach so you feel confident and informed.

Do you work with aggressive dogs?

Yes, especially dogs with dog-to-dog reactivity. These cases are best handled through private lessons. For dogs with human-directed aggression, we offer in-home private training only. Please reach out for a consultation.

Will a 4-week board & train hurt my bond with my dog?

Not at all. Your dog won’t forget you. Visits are scheduled throughout their stay to help maintain your bond and support their transition home.

What’s my role in the training process?

Your involvement is essential.

  • In private lessons, you are the primary trainer and we guide you step-by-step.
  • In board and train, our team does the initial work, but you’ll participate in several owner transfer sessions to learn how to maintain your dog’s new skills and apply them confidently at home.
